Inspired by a quote from Frank Stella that compares the affect art can have on a viewer to that of a home-run hit out of the park, artist Julien Diehn researched these increasingly rare baseball moments. Diehn presented a radio interview entitled "New Nihilism or New Art?", moderated by Bruce Glaser which featured Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, and Frank Stella discussing contemporary art. It was recorded February 15, 1964 and broadcast on WBAI-FM, New York, on March 24, 1964. It is the original document in which Stella makes the following remark: "Maybe that's the quality of simplicity. When Mantle hits the ball out of the park, everybody is sort of stunned for a minute because it's so simple. He knocks it right out of the park, and that usually does it." Diehn layered this radio broadcast with a projection of a television series that ran from 1959-1960 called Home Run Derby. This program featured a series of filmed home run contests between two sluggers. It was filmed at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles.
